Crafty Thoughts

I have every intention of getting up my DIY Statement Necklace tutorial ASAP, but I want to make sure the directions are just right and not too confusing. So, while I work on that, I thought I’d post some of the recent Pinterest crafty things I’ve seen lately that I’ve been loving.

How to letter in chalk: This makes me want to make a framed chalk board and write cute things in it!

Paper flowers: I definitely have an idea in mind for these: a DIY spring paper flower wreath! :)

DIY Stone Bracelet: This would be pretty layered with multiple bracelets or the same bracelet in multiple colors.

Animal keychains: This pin didn’t have a link (sighhhhhhhh hate when that happens), but from the looks of it, it seems like all that is needed is little plastic toy animals that you spray paint, a hook to screw into the top, and a keychain! #whimsical right? :P

And coming soon:

MIMM // The Weekend is Already Over?!

Time for another Marvelous in my Monday post! This post is being put up late because I had quite the busy weekend and then returned to a crazy work day, hence the quick captions.

Awesome boyfriend doing awesome things at an awesome fire academy family night:

Donuts (self-explanatory):

Finding out Bass Pro Shop is basically like Disneyland, complete with games:

COOKIES AND CREAM CHOCOLATE BUNNY! So delicious. The Easter bunny is just too kind to me ;)

And finally, I got to teach an InDesign Tutorial for a course on campus today. I don’t have a picture from that, but just imagine someone standing in front of 17 students who look the opposite of amused while the person in the front talks about layout design and llamas. That pretty much sums up the teaching experience.  :P

Friday Friendly Suggestions // You Can Mail Easter Eggs?!

Welcome to the very first Friday Friendly Suggestions! This idea was created by my friend Noelle when I told her that I wanted to turn all of the awesome craft/food/random things that she sends me into weekly blog posts! We … Continue reading

MIMM // Chocolate Crater Cakes

Let’s face it, I failed blogging last week again. My intentions are good, though, and I’m back for another Marvelous in My Monday! Of course this marvelousness connects to last week’s marvelousness with this:

I originally found this recipe on Pinterest when my friend Nicole was visiting and we decided it must be made. After they bake, they end up kind of having a crack in the middle so Nicole insisted that they should be called crater cakes, therefore I renamed them Chocolate Crater Cakes.

I found that they’re quite delicious both on their own and a la mode (oooo fancy) aka with some delicious ice cream. Once they’re baked, they’re definitely filled with chocolate-y gooey-ness.

If you happen to have so many left over you reheat one the next day for 30 seconds in the microwave (I may be speaking from personal experience), the inside cooks a little bit more and it isn’t like lava anymore, but it’s still super moist and delicious.

Recipe adapted from Everyday Occasions

Chocolate Crater Cakes

makes 6 medium cakes in ramekins or 12 small cupcake-sized cakes

2 tablespoons of butter, melted
2 tablespoons of cocoa
3/4 cup of butter
12 ounce of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup of heavy cream
5 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup of flour

Prepare cupcake pans by coating the inside of each with melted butter by swirling it around.  Then sprinkle the insides with cocoa. I will warn you that this step creates quite the mess, but it’s necessary to have the cakes slip beautifully out of the ramekins. For our cupcake sized cakes we just went ahead and used cupcake liners to make it easier.

To make the batter, place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, then top it with butter and cream.  Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the chocolate is smooth.  When chocolate has cooled slightly, stir in eggs (make sure to temper them!), sugar, and flour.  Pour into prepared ramekins or cupcake pans.  Refrigerate for 1 hour (at least).

Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes for regular 12/cupcake pan size and 15-18 for jumbo 6/ramekin size, just until the outsides and most of the top have set, and the centers are still slightly runny.  You can insert the tip of a knife to test.   You just want a bit of the very center to be a thick pudding like texture.   Let them cool for 5 minutes, then place a sheet pan on top of the muffin pan and invert them.

Add ice cream or just get super anxious and eat them plain. I can guarantee both are delicious :)

MIMM // Weekend Adventures

I was looking for a way to incorporate all of my weekend adventures into one post, and I came across Healthy Diva’s Marvelous in My Monday link up! A perfect way to put all the randomness together :) And I can’t think of a better way to start the week off than by remembering all the fun times from the weekend!

Marvelous is…having my friend Nicole come to visit for the weekend!

This is a picture from her wedding a few months back where I was lucky enough to be her maid of honor. I still feel bad for messing up so many of her pictures with my crazy faces… :P

Marvelous is…going out to dinner and karaoke with Nicole and my work crew!

We were trying to send a snapchat at dinner, but it just ended up looking like ridiculousness. Per usual :) Refer back to above where I reference messing up her wedding pictures with my crazy face. Yeah. Karaoke was fun, like always, and I call them my work crew, but really we’re all real life friends. After all, one of my co-workers is my junior mom, so really we’re like family!

Marvelous is…crafting statement necklaces.

You can bet a tutorial of this necklace will be up this week! We may or may not have gone to Michaels three times in one day to complete our necklaces… :) Nicole’s necklace turned out SO PRETTY too, but I didn’t grab a picture of it! We made pretty different necklaces, but both awesome!

Marvelous is…Yogurtland.

Frozen yogurt swan. Enough said.

Marvelous is definitely this chocolate molten lava “crater cake.”

Stay tuned for that recipe soon.

And finally, marvelous is…starting to figure out a blogging schedule! I’m glad I have this post to act as a recap-type post because my Friday Five posts will be converting into a new idea starting this week! So if you weren’t already, start looking forward to Friday :)

Friday Five // 2

Here we go!

1) So, this week was craziness. The first week of the quarter is always crazy and for some reason I always think, “I’m sure this time will be better because I’ve done it so much before!” Yeah no. And while I hate to have excuses, that’s why I didn’t post. No wait, that and a lack of planning. Or ideas. Or motivation. Okay now that’s just honesty, not excuses :)

2) Because I worked so much and so late, though, I was surprised with a box of chocolates from a faculty member! She’s always so nice and does everything as she should and I see that as thanks enough, but to get chocolate on top of it was just awesome!

3) Ummmmmm…oh, duh! I saw Divergent last weekend! It was really good. I got upset a couple times because it was different from the book, but it’s okay. I liked it a lot though and I decided I do approve of the casting :-P

4) And last weekend this happened :)

5) This is super random…though so is this post…and blog…so scratch that it fits perfectly. ANYWHO, I found a LivingSocial deal for a gym nearby that has group classes and the deal is for a month of unlimited use so I could potentially, between teaching and going to this gym, get to do Zumba 4 times per week :D YES. PLEASE.

Weekend Time!

Friday Five // 1

Friday Five brought to you by the classic Sarah Dessen blog style.

1. Today is a good Friday because I didn’t have to go to work! Hooray Cesar Chavez! Thanks for being cool so we could celebrate you with a day off.

2. You know you’re feeling better after a week and a half of being sick when you look outside and see how nice it is and have to argue with yourself to stay in bed and NOT go outside to keep getting better. Stupid maturity.

3. The only reason I could successfully argue myself back into bed was knowing that I’d get to keep reading Allegiant! I’m about half way through and it’s SO GOOD so far. I had high hopes for this trilogy after being let down with the last Hunger Games book (boooooooooooooo!!) and it’s living up to my expectations so far.

4. What a nice way to segue into number three…seeing the Divergent movie this weekend! Yay! I think I’m so super excited to see it because I’ve heard all good things about it especially that it stays pretty true to the book, which is nice, and I believe it since it’s going to be a whole 2 hours and 20 minutes. That’s a pretty long movie. Not Star Wars level. But close. Kinda. And to be honest I’m not so sure about casting but…I’ll decide that after I see it.

5. Yesterday when clicking through my Bloglovin’ account as one does (up to fifty times a day — oh wait, that’s only me that does that? oops.), Design Love Fest had another Dress Your Tech post which I super loved. I love the idea of this post and the painted wallpapers were super pretty. My phone is currently sporting the Elise Painting 1 and my computer has Elise Painting 4. So basically what I’m trying to admit is that I became obsessive over the painted wallpapers.

And what do you know, five random things complete!
